Sancho wants Man Utd exit as Dortmund plan talks – Paper Round

Sancho sets heart on Man Utd exit

The Sun reports that Jadon Sancho does not want to continue his career at Manchester United next season.

Instead, Borussia Dortmund hope to re-sign the winger on loan for another season, before potentially landing a permanent deal in 2025.

The paper explains: “Jadon Sancho has no plans to return to Manchester United once his loan deal at Borussia Dortmund expires next month.

“And the Champions League semi-finalists are ready to open talks with the Red Devils about extending his stay in Germany.

“Dortmund know they are unlikely to be able to afford the price tag for a permanent deal for the 24-year-old this summer.

“So they plan to ask about the possibility of signing him for another year – with an option or obligation to buy at the end of the 2024/5 campaign.

“United paid £73 million to sign Sancho from the German giants in summer 2021 but he never lived up to that price tag.”

Man Utd concerned over Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel still looks likely to leave Bayern Munich, but there are concerns at Manchester United over appointing him.

Should he replace Erik ten Hag, some at Old Trafford are worried about his reputation for leaving clubs under a cloud.

The Mirror explains: “Figures at Manchester United have expressed concern over Thomas Tuchel potentially clashing with the club’s leadership if he’s appointed to replace Erik ten Hag.

“Tuchel is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season, despite the German giants being one game away from the Champions League final. In February, with the Bundesliga title slipping away from the Bavarians’ grasp for the first time since 2012, Bayern announced that they’d reached an agreement with the former Chelsea boss to part ways, making him available this summer.

“At Paris Saint-Germain, he clashed with sporting director Leonardo, who claimed that Tuchel disrespected the club prior to his dismissal in late 2020. The Chelsea job soon followed but after a change of ownership at Stamford Bridge, his trophy-laden spell ended in acrimonious fashion, never gelling with the new regime led by Todd Boehly.”

Nacho set for Real departure

Nacho Fernandez will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, and he has found no offers in Europe convincing.

Instead, Marca reports, the captain will go Stateside to link up with an MLS team to start a new spell in his career.

The paper reports: “Nacho Fernandez has decided to end his time as a Real Madrid player on June 30, as reported by MARCA and he’s already chosen his next destination as he pursues his desire to embark on a new adventure by heading to the MLS.

“The captain of Los Blancos has left behind other offers with a more economic rewards as his continuity in the world of football goes through the North American league.

“As MARCA.com reported at the time, the idea has matured throughout the season and although during the previous year he moved very close to saying goodbye, on that occasion he changed his mind and continued for another season.

“Now nothing new has moved him as his destiny will be in the United States with the incentive of being captain, something that came with Karim Benzema’s farewell, has been more than fulfilled.

“Nacho Fernandez has decided to end his time as a Real Madrid player on June 30, as reported by MARCA and he’s already chosen his next destination as he pursues his desire to embark on a new adventure by heading to the MLS.”

Richarlison may be shown the exit by Spurs

Tottenham could be sacrificed by Tottenham as they look to raise funds for the coming transfer window.

The Brazilian has 10 league goals this season, and Ange Postecoglou wants to bring in new faces.

The Express states: “Richarlison could be central to a summer exodus at Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou prepares to revamp his squad following their stumbling finish to the season. Thursday’s 2-0 defeat at Chelsea represented a third straight defeat for Spurs, leaving them up against it in their bid to catch fourth-placed Aston Villa and qualify for the Champions League next season.

“The 26-year-old is now a lead candidate to be sold at the end of the season with Postecoglou set to go into the market for a new striker. Richarlison, who switched from the Toffees in 2022 in a deal worth more than £50m, has already been linked to clubs in Saudi Arabia.

“And Postecoglou himself has ramped up speculation by candidly admitting he wanted to alter his squad this summer. ‘We need change. Change has to happen,’ he said, ahead of his side’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday.”

F1 Miami GP: Verstappen fends off Leclerc for pole again

https://cdn-5.motorsport.com/images/amp/68yrrm40/s6/max-verstappen-red-bull-racing.jpg

Verstappen posted a 1m27.241s to lead Leclerc by 0.141-seconds on the first runs in Q3, where they were trailed by Carlos Sainz in the other Ferrari.

On the final runs, although Verstappen set the session’s fastest time in the first sector, the leading trio could not better their previous best times – Leclerc in particular having a wild time on this final flier.

Sergio Perez did find time on his final Q3 go to jump to fourth, while Lando Norris took fifth having run mediums on his first Q3 effort.

This pair improving shuffled Oscar Piastri down to sixth on the second Q3 runs, while the Mercedes pair George Russell and Lewis Hamilton took seventh and eighth.

Both Mercedes drivers had to run mediums for the last Q3 laps after running out of new softs, but only Hamilton went quicker with the yellow-walled rubber.

Behind, Nico Hulkenberg was ninth and Yuki Tsunoda took 10th, with the other notable incident in Q3 being Sainz getting cleared of impeding Hulkenberg at Turn 17 late on.

In Q2, Russell’s last-gasp improvement knocked out Lance Stroll, who was joined by Alpine pair Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon – both French drivers failing to set personal best times on their final runs in the middle segment.

Behind, Alex Albon’s late personal best pushed Fernando Alonso down to 15th in the other Aston Martin.

In Q1, Alonso squeaked in through 0.01s ahead of Valtteri Bottas in 15th and 16th, with home hero Logan Sargeant eliminated in 17th behind Bottas.

Sprint qualifying and race star Daniel Ricciardo was also knocked out in 18th complaining of lacking rear grip, with Kevin Magnussen and Zhou Guanyu 19th and 20th.

Magnussen lost time with traffic at the final corner on his last Q1 lap, while Zhou faces a post-session stewards’ investigation for pushing in front of Ricciardo when before the pitlane opened for the first segment and for crossing the pit exit line late in Q1.

Several drivers will be investigated for going too slowly on out-laps, but will be expected to avoid grid penalties as is now typical for such incidents, while Ricciardo’s post-Chinese GP penalty for overtaking under the safety car means he will start Sunday’s race from last place.

F1 Miami Grand Prix – Qualifying results

‘He went too long’ – Narvaez explains how he beat Pogacar in ‘special’ Stage 1 victory

Giro d’Italia Stage 1 winner Jhonatan Narvaez said it was “really, really hard” to keep pace with Tadej Pogacar up the stage’s final climb, ahead of the final sprint which saw him pip the Slovenian to victory.

Pogacar raced up the final uncategorised climb of the opening stage of the first Grand Tour of the season, with only Ineos Grenadiers’ Narvaez and Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) able to keep pace.

When asked by reporters how difficult it was to remain within touching distance of the two-time Tour de France winner, Narvaez said: “It still hurts me now. [It was] really, really hard.”

Further dissecting the victory, Narvaez explained how he thought Pogacar started sprinting too early, allowing him to swoop in for a last-gasp overtake.

“It was a great feeling,” he said. “We know with the team it’s going to be a good stage for me, I worked a lot on it. Also following the best guy in the world in the climb was really hard so it’s a special victory today.

“It was really, really hard. In the end I made it. I think he [Pogacar] went too long, 200m after a really hard stage. I did a shorter sprint, in the end I took the victory.”

‘I gave it everything’ – Pogacar

Pogacar agreed with Narvaez’ assessment, and credited the Ecuadorian for a “super strong” display.

“He followed my wheel really well and the group on the front had too big a gap in the bottom,” Pogacar said.

“I tried, I gave it everything and I still dropped GC riders, and this is the sign that I have good legs. But when we come to the top of the climb and Narvaez was still with me, I knew he would be hard to beat in the sprint.

“I was also a bit nervous because it’s been a long time since I was in a sprint with three guys. So I started too early, but Narvaez was obviously faster. I didn’t have too much chance, but anyway, it was a really good effort today.”

Pogacar, who entered the Giro d’Italia as favourite, remained upbeat about the remainder of the three-week-long Grand Tour, despite finishing behind both Narvaez and Schachmann.

“It was our first day at the Giro, a short and fast stage which we tried to control,” Pogacar said in a statement. “Unfortunately it was not our day but we still did a good job I think.”

After the race, he added: “It’s always a bit 50/50 on the first day, we see some riders suffering and some feeling good, so I think also in our team, we’re going step by step, day by day.

“Tomorrow is more suited as a stage for us, I would say, so we’ll see how the legs are going after today’s effort. But I think it’s going to be a good Giro.”

The Giro d’Italia continues for its second stage on Sunday, live on Eurosport and discovery+, as riders take on the hilly terrains from San Francesco al Campo to Santuario di Oropa.
