Nach dem 1:2 bei Luton Town nahm Bournemouths Trainer Andoni Iraola drei Veränderungen vor: Senesi, Sinisterra und Ouattara starteten anstelle von Kelly, Tavernier und Semenyo.

Erik ten Hag vertraute nach dem 2:2 gegen Liverpool exakt derselben Startformation.

Bournemouth mit den besseren Chancen

Bournemouth war von Beginn an gut in der Partie, Solanke hatte nach einem hohen Ballgewinn die erste Chance des Spiels (7.). ManUnited hatte zunächst mehr den Ball, tat sich aber schwer mit dem Pressing der Gastgeber. So resultierte ein Ballverlust von Garnacho auch gleich in der Führung für die Gastgeber durch Solanke (16.). Rashford wäre beinahe der postwendende Ausgleich geglückt (18.), in der Folge waren es aber die Süd-Engländer, die die besseren Chancen hatten. Kerkez (19.), Sinisterra (21.) und Christie (28., 30.) ließen sie aber allesamt liegen.

Dies sollte sich rächen, denn Bruno Fernandes gelang auch mit etwas Glück der bis dato durchaus schmeichelhafte Ausgleich (31.). Bournemouth ließ sich davon jedoch nicht aus der Ruhe bringen. Erst schoss Sinisterra (34.) am Tor vorbei, ehe es Kluivert besser machte und die erneute Führung für die Cherries erzielte (36.).

Die Red Devils waren insbesondere defensiv teilweise indisponiert. Wenn Kerkez (43.) und Kluivert (45.+3) ihre Hochprozenter genutzt hätten, hätte sich keiner beschweren dürfen. United war abhängig von einzelnen Momenten, in denen sich die individuelle Qualität der Offensive zeigte – so auch beim sehenswerten Lattentreffer von Bruno Fernandes (45.+8). Dann ging es mit einem alles in allem durchaus schmeichelhaften 2:1 in die Pause.

Nach dem Seitenwechsel passierte erstmal lange nichts Nennenswertes. Wenn eine Mannschaft den gefährlicheren Eindruck gemacht hat, dann waren es aber die Cherries – auch dank des stets agilen Kluivert. In Minute 63 zeigte der Unparteiische Tony Harrington plötzlich auf den Punkt, ein in der Entstehung durchaus kurioser und strittiger Handelfmeter. Bruno Fernandes ließ sich die Chance nicht entgehen und glich aus (65.). Beide Teams starteten in der Folge vereinzelte Versuche nach vorne, echte Gefahr ging dabei aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt mehr so recht aus. Turbulent wurde es am Ende noch einmal, als der Unparteiische nach Foul von Kambwala an Christie auf den Punkt zeigte, nach VAR-Review aber auf Freistoß entschied (90.+5). Der fällige Freistoß brachte nichts ein, so blieb es am Ende beim 2:2.

Für ManUnited geht es in der nächsten Woche darum, die letzte verbliebende Titelchance am Leben zu halten. Sonntag (16.30 Uhr) trifft die Mannschaft von Erik ten Hag im FA-Cup-Halbfinale auf Coventry City. Für Bournemouth geht es eine halbe Stunde zuvor (16 Uhr) in der Premier League mit einem Auswärtsspiel bei Aston Villa weiter.

Zwischen den beiden Viertelfinalspielen in der Champions League gegen Real stand für ManCity die Pflichtaufgabe Luton an. Pep Guardiola gab einigen Stammspielern wie Rodri nach dem 3:3 im Hinspiel bei Real Madrid eine Pause. Das kongeniale Duo De Bruyne, einer von sechs Neuen, und Haaland stand allerdings auf dem Platz.

Das dürfte bei einigen Hatters-Anhängern schlechte Erinnerungen hervorgerufen haben. Denn die beiden hatten den Aufsteiger Ende Februar beim 6:2 im FA Cup fast im Alleingang zerlegt (vier der fünf Haaland-Treffer hatte De Bruyne vorbereitet).

16:0 Torschüsse im ersten Durchgang

Beinahe hätte es im Etihad gleich eine Fortsetzung gegeben. De Bruyne setzte in der ersten Minute Haaland in Szene, der im Eins-gegen-Eins aber an Kaminski scheiterte. City blieb allerdings dran: Wenige Augenblicke später fälschte Hashioka Haalands Seitfallzieher-Schuss ins eigene Netz ab (2.).

Die Skyblues wollten im Anschluss schnell für klare Verhältnisse sorgen und drängten die Hatters in deren eigenen Sechzehner. Häufig durften sich die ManCity-Spieler 20 Meter vor dem Tor ohne großen Gegnerdruck den Ball hin und her schieben. So stellte sich eigentlich nicht die Frage, ob das 2:0 fällt, sondern wann. Doch es fehlte den Hausherren die nötige Kaltschnäuzigkeit: Matheus Nunes (14. und 27.), Haaland (18., 25.) und De Bruyne (45.) verpassten nachzulegen, sodass es nach dem einseitigen ersten Durchgang (16:0 Torschüsse) “nur” mit 1:0 in die Kabine ging.

Nach dem Wiederanpfiff ließ der Aufsteiger, der mit Abwehrproblemen angereist war – “Wir haben sieben Innenverteidiger im Verein und keiner hat diese Woche trainiert”, hatte Coach Rob Edwards auf der Pressekonferenz erklärt -, außer Distanzschüssen zunächst nur wenig zu. Unter anderem verzog Ruben Dias aus rund 20 Metern (58.).

Doku stellt Onyedinma vor Probleme

Eine Eckballvariante nahm dann zumindest ergebnistechnisch die Spannung raus: Letztlich jagte Kovacic das Leder aus rund 15 Metern volley ins Netz (64.). Der Treffer tat dem Spiel gut, weil die Gäste anschließend ein höheres Risiko einigen. Fast wären sie dafür direkt belohnt geworden: Woodrow traf mit dem ersten Luton-Torschuss des Spiels nur die Latte (66.).

Dass City etwas mehr Platz bekam, kam vor allem Doku zugute. Denn der wendige Außenspieler wurde nicht mehr so häufig gedoppelt und ging mehr ins Eins-gegen-eins – ganz zum Leidwesen von Onyedinma: Erst foulte der Außenverteidiger ihn im eigenen Sechzehner – Haaland verwandelte den Elfmeter (76) -, dann tanzte Doku Onyedinma vor seinem eigenen Treffer aus (87.). Zwischenzeitlich hatte Barkley, kurz nachdem Doughty das 1:3 verpasst hatte (80.), Ergebniskosmetik betrieben (81.).

Gvardiol setzt den Schlusspunkt

Obwohl City in der Nachspielzeit noch eine Doppelchance vergeben hatte (90.+2), blieb es nicht beim 4:1: Wie schon in Madrid hämmerte Gvardiol den Ball aus der Distanz sehenswert in die Maschen und setzte damit den Schlusspunkt (90.+3).

Durch das 5:1 schob sich der amtierenden Meister zumindest vorübergehend auf den ersten Platz und setzte seine beiden Kontrahenten Arsenal und Liverpool unter Druck.

Manchester City ist am Mittwoch (21 Uhr) im Rückspiel gegen Real Madrid gefragt, bevor es nur drei Tage später am Samstag (18.15 Uhr) im FA-Cup-Halbfinale gegen den FC Chelsea geht. Luton Town empfängt kurz zuvor (16 Uhr) den FC Brentford.

Man Utd lose ground in race for Europe despite Fernandes double at Bournemouth

Dominic Solanke became Bournemouth’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League in a 2-2 home draw with Manchester United, who hit back twice to earn a fortunate point courtesy of a classy Bruno Fernandes double.

The home side should have been further ahead in the first half at the Vitality Stadium as they swarmed all over the visiting goal, with Solanke netting his 17th of the season to give them a merited lead on 16 minutes via a powerful drive.

Fernandes levelled with a venomous volley from close range on 31 minutes, only for Justin Kluivert to restore the home side’s advantage with another fine finish five minutes later after more sloppy United play.

It was left to Fernandes to rescue an unlikely point for Erik ten Hag’s team on 65 minutes when he tucked away a penalty after Adam Smith handled Kobbie Mainoo’s deflected shot.

United remain seventh behind Newcastle on goal difference with one win in their past seven league matches with Bournemouth in 12th after finishing a Premier League season unbeaten against the visitors for the first time.
