Weil es im letzten Heimspiel der Saison gegen die SpVgg Greuther Fürth (0:0) auch darum ging, den Klassenerhalt auch rein rechnerisch unter Dach und Fach zu bringen, verzichtete der 1. FC Magdeburg rund um die Feierlichkeiten des 50-jährigen Jubiläums des Europapokal-Triumphs gegen die AC Mailand darauf, seine scheidenden Spieler zu verabschieden.

Am Mittwochabend zog der FCM nun im Rahmen eines Grillfest mit rund 3000 Fans nach und verkündete: Jamie Lawrence, Leon Bell Bell, Herbert Bockhorn, Luc Castaignos und Top-Torjäger Luca Schuler (sechs Tore) werden den Zweitligisten im Sommer verlassen.

Schuler und Co. spielten tragende Rollen

Lawrence kam im Sommer 2022 für eine zweijährige Leihe vom FC Bayern München zum FCM und absolvierte seither 38 Partien. Während der 2,01 Meter große Innenverteidiger zunächst zum Rekordmeister zurückkehren wird, ist die Zukunft des Quartetts noch offen. Bell Bell (29 Spiele), Bockhorn (27) und Schuler (28) gehörten in der laufenden Saison zum Stammpersonal, Castaignos zählte bis zu seiner Oberschenkelverletzung ebenfalls regelmäßig zum Aufgebot.

Aus dem war Baris Atik in der laufenden Saison nicht wegzudenken. Vier Tore und zehn Vorlagen steuerte der Offensivspieler, mit kicker-Note 3,16 bester Magdeburger, zum Klassenerhalt bei. Für die kommende Saison hat er Vertrag beim FCM, ob er den allerdings erfüllt, ist aktuell offen.

Der Verein ist noch nicht auf mich zugekommen, dass er mich loswerden möchte.

Baris Atik über einen möglichen Wechsel

Hertha BSC beschäftigt sich mit dem 29-Jährigen, der im Falle eines Abgangs von Fabian Reese gen Bundesliga dessen Position auf dem Flügel der Berliner einnehmen könnte. Gegenüber dem MDR erklärte der Magdeburger Vize-Kapitän am vergangenen Wochenende: “Ich bin glücklich hier. Und der Verein ist auf mich noch nicht zugekommen, dass er mich loswerden möchte. Solange das nicht der Fall ist, bin ich auch hier.”

Hamilton announced earlier this year that he would be leaving Mercedes at the end of this season and joining Ferrari as Charles Leclerc’s team-mate for 2025.

Although Vasseur has so far been reluctant to talk much about Hamilton, out of respect for current driver Carlos Sainz, he has now offered some background of the reasons for his determination to lure him on board.

In an exclusive interview with Autosport, Vasseur said that Hamilton’s arrival brought gains that would start many months before he even sat in a car for the first time.

“The input of Lewis or another driver is not just about qualification lap time and so on,” said Vasseur.

“It’s the finality of the job. What we all collectively can see Saturday or Sunday, at the end of the day, the job of the driver is much wider.

“It’s starting sometimes six or eight months before the season, to be able to work on the next project, to bring his own experience, his own view on what we can do, or how we could do it and so on and so on.”

Vasseur believes that, with his organisation in its current guise still in its infancy, having Hamilton’s vast experience on board will be priceless in giving Ferrari direction.

“We are still a young team,” he added. “It’s not just a matter of age, but it’s a matter of experience together, and wins together.

“That means that we are quite green, or quite young, and to have someone into the loop with such a big background and such big experience will impact for sure.

“We have time to discuss this with Lewis and, for me, into the building process of the team – you want to have a long-term view and for the next cycle.

“I’m not speaking about ’24 or ’25, it’s about cycle and it’s where clearly, we have to do steps.

“We made some improvements already I think, compared to 12 months ago, to involve the drivers much earlier into the project and to build up the characteristic of the car with them.

“I think we are going in the right direction. But for sure Lewis will add value.”

One of the other encouraging aspects Vasseur found about Ferrari’s signing of Hamilton was that the news did not leak from the team until the 11th hour.

Whereas previously Ferrari had been widely known for not being able to keep information within the confines of the Maranello factory walls, it was only on the morning of Hamilton’s announcements that the story properly hit the media.

“We had no leaks,” said Vasseur, who suggested that even the stories on the morning of the announcement had not come from Ferrari.

“I think it was done by purpose by someone from the UK,” he smiled.

He added: “I really appreciated that we are a small group, and we worked for months, and we are able to go until the end and had no leakage. It was a good one.”

“I don’t want to make any judgment on the past, but I can’t complain. I had more leaks at Renault, for example.

“Renault, I was saying something in the debrief, and then it was in that afternoon on the websites.”

Damit werden die beiden Co-Trainer Sandro Wagner und Benjamin Glück sowie Torwarttrainer Andreas Kronenberg und auch Standardcoach Mads Buttgereit dem DFB bis einschließlich der WM 2026 erhalten bleiben. Nagelsmann betonte, dass er seine eigene Entscheidung zum Verbleib davon abhängig gemacht habe, es sei es damals eine “Grundvoraussetzung” für ihn gewesen. “Alle waren genauso wie ich Feuer und Flamme, den Weg weiterzugehen. Als Cheftrainer ist man nur ein Teil eines Teams, auch für die Mannschaft ist es ein gutes Signal.”

Der ehemalige Nationalspieler Wagner arbeitet seit Sommer 2023 für den DFB, zunächst als Co-Trainer von Hannes Wolf bei der U-20-Nationalmannschaft. Als Assistent der A-Mannschaft saß er erstmals gemeinsam mit Wolf beim Testspiel gegen Frankreich (2:1) auf der Bank, als Rudi Völler  nach der Trennung von Hansi Flick als Interimstrainer einsprang.

Seit September 2023 verstärkt Glück das Assistententeam, der 38-Jährige hatte Nagelsmann schon auf den Trainerstationen in Hoffenheim, Leipzig und beim FC Bayern München begleitet. Der langjährige Freiburg-Torwarttrainer Kronenberg ist ebenso wie Buttgereit seit Sommer 2021 beim DFB-Team tätig.

“Fußball ist nicht nur auf dem Platz ein Mannschaftssport, sondern auch an der Seitenlinie”, ließ sich DFB-Geschäftsführer Andreas Rettig in einer Pressemitteilung zitieren. “Auch hier sind wir mit Julian Nagelsmann und seinem Trainerteam für die beiden kommenden Jahre bis zur Weltmeisterschaft bestens aufgestellt. Es ist gut, dass für alle Beteiligten vor Beginn der Europameisterschaft Klarheit herrscht und wir uns voll auf das Heimturnier konzentrieren können.”

Der SV Waldhof Mannheim hat eine der wichtigsten Personalien festgezurrt: Kapitän und Eigengewächs Marcel Seegert hat seinen auslaufenden Vertrag beim Drittligisten verlängert.

Wie Waldhof in seiner Pressemitteilung erklärt, ist es “mehr als eine normale Vertragsverlängerung”. Denn: Seit Wochen hätten die Fans auf diese Entscheidung hingefiebert – und seit Donnerstagmittag ist klar, dass Kapitän Marcel Seegert “seinem” Verein erhalten bleibt. Wie lange, ließ der SVW offen.

“Cello verkörpert den SV Waldhof Mannheim nicht nur mit seinen Worten. Er schafft es, auf dem Rasen einen ganzen Verein zu symbolisieren”, wählt Anthony Loviso, Technischer Leiter Sport des SVW, große Worte: “Wer fast 300 Einsätze für einen Klub hat, versteht einen Verein einfach nochmal in einer anderen Form. Wir sind sehr glücklich, dass wir auch in Zukunft auf Cello zählen können.”

Seegert hielt “die Kabine zusammen”

Der gebürtige Mannheimer sei “in der Rückrunde vorausgegangen und hat nicht nur auf dem Rasen konstante Leistungen gezeigt”. Seegert habe zudem “die Kabine zusammengehalten und dafür sind wir ihm als Verein sehr dankbar”.

Beim 4:2-Heimsieg über den SV Sandhausen am vergangenen Samstag, durch das der Klassenerhalt endgültig festgezurrt wurde, ging Seegert dann sogar als Torschütze voran. Mittlerweile stehen 288 Pflichtspiele für den Waldhof in seiner Vita. Der 30-Jährige erzielte als Innenverteidiger dabei bemerkenswerte 27 Tore und bereitete fünf weitere vor. Seit 2020 führt “Cello” den SVW als Kapitän aufs Feld.

“Jeder der mich kennt weiß, was mir dieser Verein und diese Stadt bedeutet”, so Seegert über seine Beweggründe: “Wir haben eine sehr intensive Zeit hinter uns, die wir zum Glück mit dem Klassenerhalt abgeschlossen haben. Jetzt gilt es den Blick nach vorne zu richten. Wir möchten wieder eine sorgenfreie Saison absolvieren und konstanter in unseren Leistungen werden.”

In der laufenden Drittliga-Saison kam Seegert 29-mal zum Zug, schoss drei Tore und legte ein weiteres auf (kicker-Notenschnitt 3,08). “Ein besonderer Dank gilt unseren Fans, die nicht nur mich, sondern die ganze Mannschaft in der Endphase der Saison unfassbar unterstützt haben”, so der Mannheimer, der schon jetzt der Saison 2024/25 entgegenfiebert: “Wir haben der ganzen Liga gezeigt, wozu der Waldhof in der Lage ist.”

Voráček, som är expert på tjeckisk tv under mästerskapet, sa under sändningen att han inte är något fan av spelare som inte visar känsloyttringar och att det är respektlöst mot motståndarna.

”Jag sa att jag inte gillar det. Att fira mål är normalt. Icke-firande är mer respektlöst än att fira. Han är dock en jävla spelare”, utvecklade tjecken senare på X.

Kanada ligger för närvarande på tredjeplats i grupp A.
