Juventus not interested in Manchester United midfielder Matic

Italian sources have been quick to shoot down reports that Manchester United defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic could join Juventus as a free agent.

The veteran is out of contract this summer and free to choose his next destination without a transfer fee.

The Daily Star suggested this weekend that Matic had chosen a proposal from Juve to continue his career in Serie A.

It would earn him a signing-on bonus and a salary worth €5m per season.

However, Italian sources from Calciomercato.it to Sky Sport Italia and Goal.com are all confident Juventus are not even interested in the possibility of signing Matic.

If anything, Matic’s representatives have offered him to the Bianconeri rather than the other way around.

They are trying to lower the overall wage bill and focus more on younger players.

If they are to go for a player over 30, it would only be Angel Di Maria, who is available once his contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs down on June 30.

Matic turns 34 in August and joined Manchester United from Chelsea for €44.7m in the summer of 2017.

Juve to exchange Arthur with Arsenal’s Partey?

Juventus have reportedly identified Thomas Partey as a strong option to improve their midfield and they may look to include Arthur in a possible exchange deal.

The 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder has failed to impress in Turin under coach Massimiliano Allegri this season and he seemed close to a move to the Gunners in the January transfer window, but ultimately this failed to materialise. The second half of his season has been much better than the first, but it’s hard to imagine Allegri continuing to rely on Arthur as the team fight to return to the top.

As reported by AS, Juventus believe that Arsenal’s Partey may be the ideal candidate to strengthen Allegri’s midfield, and now they’re considering the idea of sending Arthur to North London in exchange.

A deal may be tough to pull off, however, as the Gunners value the 28-year-old Ghanaian midfielder at around €35m. Arthur, in comparison, has an estimated market value of around €20m, so Juventus may need to include cash to sweeten the deal.

Kean’s Juve future secure but pressure on to score

Ahead of Juventus’ 2-1 loss to Genoa, Pavel Nedved underlined that he’s hoping Moise Kean can score 25 goals a season, something which seems impossible to imagine at the moment.

The 22-year-old Italian forward re-joined the Bianconeri last summer following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, joining on a €7m two-year loan deal with a €28m obligation to buy clause attached, plus €3m in add-ons. This means that his future in Turin is secure and there is no return to Everton planned.

As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the debate surrounding Kean isn’t related to his future but how he’ll manage to score 25 goals a season, or at least an acceptable amount for a Juventus forward.

The 22-year-old Kean has only scored five goals in 30 Serie A appearances this season and the most he’s ever scored in a single league campaign came last season, when he scored 13 for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian forward will have to transition into being a clinical wide forward as there’s little chance now that he’ll displace Dusan Vlahovic in the centre of the attack.

Insigne prepares for mixed Napoli farewell

In seven days time, Lorenzo Insigne will play in front of the Napoli faithful at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for the final time, a fact that has fans divided in their reaction.

The 30-year-old Italian winger has not had a particularly simple season following last summer’s Euro 2020 victory and the announcement that he’ll be joining MLS side Toronto FC in January certainly upset the Partenopei fans, who were upset to lose their talisman following a contract disagreement with president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Insigne has failed to impress on the pitch this season for Napoli and he missed a penalty in yesterday’s 1-0 win over Torino, another example of his inconsistent form. Whilst the club are preparing to celebrate the Italian winger’s final home game, the fans are much more divided, with some ready to finally say goodbye after a forgettable year.

The Napoli captain made his debut for the first team on January 24 2010 and now, 12 and a half years later, he’s preparing to wave goodbye to the home fans, ready for a new adventure across the Atlantic.

Leicester join Premier League rivals and Inter in race for Bremer

Leicester City met with Torino this week to discuss a deal for Gleison Bremer, who is also wanted by Inter, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old Brazilian centre back has proven himself to be one of the best defenders in Serie A this season, shining under Ivan Juric in Turin. His stats show that he’s one of the most effective defenders when it comes to interceptions, blocks, aerial battles and clearances, a sign of his well-rounded style.

As reported by The Sun, Leicester’s representatives met with Torino earlier this week to discuss Bremer whilst they were in Italy for the Europa Conference League semi-final against Roma. They hope that a possible exchange deal involving Dennis Praet may prove convincing.

It won’t be easy for the Foxes, however, as they are facing serious competition from Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, as well as Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool. Valued at around €40m, Bremer will undoubtedly be one of the key figures of the upcoming summer transfer window in Serie A.
