Erling Haaland has signed with Manchester City, but Juventus could have secured his services in 2017 when he went to Turin to watch a game at the Allianz Stadium.
The Borussia Dortmund star was under contract with Molde at that time but had already attracted the interest of many clubs in Europe, including Juventus. The Serie A giants had been in talks with his agent Mino Raiola and invited the striker and his father to watch a game at the Allianz Stadium.
He was an unknown player to many football fans at that time and a few years later, a picture from that night showing Haaland wearing a Juventus hat became viral.
Juventus were ready to pay €4m to secure his services, but the striker snubbed a move to Turin as the Old Lady had planned to send him out on loan or let him play for one season in their U23 team in Italy’s third division.
“Things must be put into context,” Juventus director Federico Cherubini told Tuttosport in September.
“Young players can be scared about going out on loan, we were at the beginning of our U23 project and perhaps the perspective we offered him wasn’t too exciting.
“Maybe the idea of going out on loan wasn’t ideal for a player like him. Perhaps, today things would be different.”
