1:41Durch das 44. Spiel ohne Niederlage in Serie glückte Bayer Leverkusen gegen West Ham United der Einzug ins Halbfinale der Europa League. Einfach war das jedoch nicht, gab auch Jonathan Tah zu und erklärte, wie Trainer Xabi Alonso der zwischenzeitlichen Verunsicherung entgegenwirken konnte.
2:55Bayer 04 Leverkusen bleibt auch im 44. Pflichtspiel in dieser Saison ungeschlagen und steht somit im Halbfinale der Europa League. Bayer-Trainer Xabi Alonso zeigte sich trotz schlechter erster Halbzeit zufrieden mit der Leistung seiner Mannschaft.
Es war eine Woche genau nach dem Geschmack der deutschen Fußballfans. Denn gleich drei Mannschaften zogen ins Halbfinale eines europäischen Wettbewerbs ein. Das gab es 29 Jahre nicht mehr.
Jubel gab es in dieser Woche in Dortmund, München und Leverkusen.
In der Saison 1994/95 schafften es zuletzt drei deutsche Mannschaften ins Halbfinale eines europäischen Wettbewerbs. Bayern München (Champions League), Bayer Leverkusen und Borussia Dortmund (beide UEFA-Pokal) waren damals noch vertreten und kämpften um den Titel.
Alle drei schieden damals bereits im Halbfinale aus. Für die Bayern war in der Runde der letzten Vier gegen Ajax Amsterdam Schluss, das Rückspiel verloren die Münchner in den Niederlanden klar mit 2:5 (Hinspiel 0:0). Im UEFA-Cup war Parma zu stark für Leverkusen (1:2, 0:3) und Juventus Turin schaltete Borussia Dortmund aus (2:2, 1:2).
In dieser Saison greifen also wie damals drei deutsche Mannschaften nach dem Titel. In der Champions League sind noch Dortmund (setzte sich gegen Atletico Madrid durch) und die Bayern (schalteten Arsenal aus) im Rennen. Da es der BVB in knapp zwei Wochen im Halbfinale mit Paris zu tun bekommt und die Münchner gegen Champions-League-Rekordsieger Real Madrid spielen, wäre sogar erneut (wie bereits 2013) ein deutsches Finale in Wembley möglich. Damals gewann der FCB am Ende dank des Treffers von Arjen Robben mit 2:1.
In der Europa League hat Leverkusen gute Chancen auf den Titel. Bayer gewann das Viertelfinal-Hinspiel gegen West Ham mit 2:0, weswegen am Donnerstag in London ein 1:1 reichte. Für die Werkself, die am Sonntag gegen Werder Bremen die erste Meisterschaft der Vereinsgeschichte klargemacht hatte, war es bereits das 44. Saisonspiel ohne Niederlage in Serie. Das ist ein neuer Rekord in Europas Top-5-Ligen, Juventus Turin hatte es schon mal geschafft, 43 Spiele nicht zu verlieren. Im Halbfinale bekommt es die Mannschaft von Xabi Alonso nun in zwei Wochen nun mit der AS Rom zu tun.
Trotz knapp 70 Minuten in Unterzahl hat die AS Rom auch das Rückspiel im Viertelfinale der Europa League gegen Milan für sich entschieden. Am Ende stand ein verdienter 2:1-Sieg der Römer.

Seit dem 1:0 -Hinspielerfolg im Viertelfinale der Europa League gegen Ligakonkurrent Milan hatte die AS Rom bewegte Tage erlebt. Aufgrund eines Zusammenbruchs des Ex-Frankfurters Ndicka auf dem Spielfeld war das Gastspiel bei Udinese Calcio am vergangenen Wochenende beim Stand von 1:1 abgebrochen worden. Nichtsdestotrotz stand nur vier Tage später das Rückspiel gegen die Rossoneri an und ein Ticket ins Halbfinale auf dem Spiel. Dafür veränderte Roma-Coach Daniele de Rossi seine Aufstellung auf einer Position im Vergleich zum Hinspiel: Bove ersetzte den gesperrten Cristante. Milan-Trainer Stefano Pioli tauschte seinerseits zweimal, Tomori und Musah ersetzten Thiaw und Reijnders (beide Bank).
Trotz der Ablenkungen fanden die Hausherren einen temporeichen Start in die Partie, nach zwölf Minuten durfte das Stadio Olympico bereits erstmals jubeln. Nach einem tollen Schlenzer von Pellegrini, der an den Pfosten prallte, schaltete Mancini am schnellsten und besorgte wie schon im Hinspiel die 1:0-Führung für die Hauptstädter (12.). Lange auf sich warten ließ die Antwort der Rossoneri allerdings nicht, nur acht Minuten später hatte Loftus-Cheek per Direktabnahme die Chance auf den Ausgleich (20.).
Weil der Versuch des Engländers aber nur an den Querbalken prallte, blieb das Momentum aufseiten der Römer und die nutzten das eiskalt aus. Nach einem starken Lauf samt eigentlich abgefangener Flanke landete Gabbias schwache Klärungsaktion in den Füßen von Dybala, der aus acht Metern per Schlenzer auf 2:0 stellte (22.). Damit hatten die Römer nun einen Drei-Tore-Vorsprung auf Milan, der Halbfinaleinzug der Hausherren schien beschlossene Sache. Schien, denn knappe zehn Minuten nach dem 2:0 erwies Celik seiner Mannschaft einen Bärendienst, als er Rafael Leao an der Mittellinie von hinten in die Beine grätschte und folgerichtig mit Rot vom Platz gestellt wurde (31.).
Das Momentum war fortan aufseiten der Gäste, die vor wie auch nach dem Seitenwechsel unermüdlich anliefen, jedoch kaum ein Durchkommen gegen ein solides Bollwerk der Römer fanden. Auch die größeren Chancen in Durchgang zwei gingen so auf das Konto der Hausherren, die über Konter gefährlich blieben. Zunächst scheiterte Spinazzola nach einem schönen Lauf von El Shaarawy an Maignan, dann setzte Abraham seinen Versuch aus kurzer Distanz über das Tor der Gäste (57./66.).
Die Uhr tickte so gnadenlos gegen die Rossoneri, die einen verzweifelten Anlauf nach dem nächsten starteten, jedoch stets an der gut postierten Roma-Defensive abprallten. Erst in der Schlussphase durften die Mailänder dann doch noch einmal hoffen, nachdem Gabbia eine Flanke von Rafael Leao in die Maschen genickt hatte (85.).
Der Anschlusstreffer kam schlussendlich aber zu spät, in den Schlussminuten bot sich keine Möglichkeit mehr für die Rossoneri. Stattdessen sah Theo in der Nachspielzeit nach einem handelsüblichen Foul an El Sharaawy vermeintlich noch die zweite Rote Karte der Partie, Schiedsrichter Marciniak korrigierte diese viel zu harte Entscheidung nach einem VAR-Eingriff aber schnell (90.+2). Dennoch blieb es beim Halbfinaleinzug der Römer, die dort auf den neuen deutschen Meister Bayer Leverkusen treffen werden.
Milan erwartet bereits am Montag das nächste Highlight der Spielzeit: Ab 20.45 Uhr (LIVE! bei kicker) steigt das Derby della Madonnina gegen Stadtrivale Inter, in dem die Rossonerei sich für die 1:5-Klatsche im Hinspiel revanchieren wollen. Die Roma empfängt bereits um 18.30 Uhr den FC Bologna.

Marseille defeated Benfica 4-2 on penalties, after the sides were deadlocked 2-2 on aggregate, and go on to face Atalanta in the semi-finals of the Europa League
The hosts dominated the match, which they went into with a 2-1 deficit, but for much of the game it appeared they might be held out by the stout Benfica defence and goalkeeping of Anatolii Trubin.
This was until substitute Faris Moumbagna headed home a cross from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 10 minutes from time.
After a pulsating 90 minutes, extra time was a more measured affair with both sides out on their feet by the end of the 120 minutes.
Angel Di Maria missed the opening spot kick shooting against the right post, then after five perfect kicks, Antonio Silva saw his shot saved by Pau Lopez diving to his right and Luis Henrique then scored to send l’OM into the last four.

West Ham produced a valiant display but ultimately came up short as Bayer Leverkusen substitute Jeremie Frimpong struck in the dying seconds to earn the newly crowned German champions a UEFA Europa League semi-final spot with a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.
After winning the first leg of the quarter-final 2-0 last Thursday, the unbeaten Bundesliga leaders endured a torrid first period before recovering strongly to equalise on 89 minutes when Frimpong’s deflected shot flew off Aaron Cresswell and beyond helpless home goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
West Ham had dominated the first period and deservedly moved ahead on 13 minutes when Michail Antonio rose bravely to power a header into the net from a delightful Jarrod Bowen cross into the heart of the visiting area with goalkeeper Matej Kovar slow to react.
But they ran out of steam after half-time as visiting coach Xabi Alonso made several changes to steady matters with Leverkusen deservedly progressing to a semi-final meeting with Roma.
Leverkusen remain on course for a historic treble of league, German Cup and UEFA Europa League with the club’s first Bundesliga crown already in the bag.

Mohamed Salah was on target but Liverpool’s hopes of a famous comeback were thwarted as they bowed out of the UEFA Europa League at the quarter-final stage despite a 1-0 victory at Atalanta.
Jurgen Klopp’s men faced an almost impossible task following a shock 3-0 home reversal in the first leg at Anfield and so it proved as La Dea progressed 3-1 on aggregate.
The Merseyside club got off to the perfect start on seven minutes when Salah netted his 24th goal of the season from the penalty spot.
The Egyptian then wasted a gilt-edged chance to double Liverpool’s lead on the night when he lobbed wide when sent clear by Cody Gakpo.
Atalanta improved following the interval and should have levelled but Ederson shot straight at Alisson.
Liverpool ran out of ideas midway through the second period and never looked like setting up a barnstorming finale in what will prove to be Klopp’s final match in charge in Europe.
Atalanta will now meet Marseille or Benfica in the semi-finals. Liverpool will turn their full attention to the Premier League title race and a match at Fulham on Sunday.
When Salah struck inside the opening 10 minutes the talk of stirring European comebacks gathered momentum on social platforms, but in the end it wasn’t to be as Liverpool’s first-leg nightmare proved too much of a mountain to climb.
Klopp may well regret picking a weakened side to start that game at Anfield and he didn’t make that mistake here, with Trent Alexander-Arnold showing how influential he can be early on in his first start since injury. Understandably, he ran out of steam – and so did his teammates – with the visitors’ first-half promise fizzling out.
Indeed, Liverpool won the night but it’s the Italians who move on after securing arguably the finest triumph in their history.
The Merseysiders will now need to focus all their energies on their final six Premier League matches, with no margin for error and favours needed to reel Manchester City back in.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool). The right-back demonstrated the creativity the Reds have been missing in his absence on what was his first start since February 10. It was his cross that led to the only goal while his comfort in possession and long-range passing caught the eye for the majority of his 70 minutes on the pitch. It may not have helped a Liverpool revival here, but it bodes well for the PL run-in.
