Man Utd duo wanted by Al-Nassr, Benzema wants ‘temporary’ transfer – Paper Round

Casemiro and Wan-Bissaka to Saudi?

Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are considering a double bid for Manchester United’s Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Daily Mail reports. With United willing to sell a number of players, United’s football director John Murtough flew to Saudi Arabia last month to talk transfers.

And in their apparent bid to get Casemiro, who earns £375,000 a week, off the books, there could be interest from Cristiano Ronaldo’s club.

The Mail adds: “United are open to selling him this summer if they can recoup a chunk of the £70m fee paid to Real Madrid last year. Al-Nassr are understood to be ready to make Casemiro a huge offer with encouragement from his former Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The Saudi club could move for Wan-Bissaka this month after seeing a £20m bid for Tottenham right-back Emerson Royal rejected last week. Wan-Bissaka faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after United triggered the 12-month extension in his contract in December having decided not to offer the defender a new long-term deal.

“The 26-year-old’s agents are understood to have held further contract talks with United earlier this month but the outcome was not positive.”

Benzema wants out – temporarily

Karim Benzema wants a short-term move away from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, according to AFP. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner is training alone after being exiled from the squad for reportedly turning up 17 days late from holiday.

And now the French former Real Madrid striker wants a “temporary” move away, with the player’s former club Lyon one possible destination.

Marca adds: “The forward, who is linked to French club Lyon but without anything official, argued that he arrived late due to a cyclone that caught him in Mauritius, where he was on vacation

“At the club, meanwhile, they argue that not only did he miss those January days, but that the former Madrid player was already absent from three training sessions prior to the end of the year, after the serious defeat against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.”

Newcastle stand firm over Trippier

Newcastle have rejected Bayern Munich’s offer of £13m for Kieran Trippier, multiple outlets are reporting. The England international looks set to stay in the North East beyond the January transfer window, although the Premier League club could yet entertain offers for Miguel Almiron as they look to comply with the league’s financial rules and free up room for a summer rebuild.

Trippier is open to the move, where he would join Harry Kane and Eric Dier, but it looks unlikely a deal will happen.

The Mirror writes: “At their current valuation it is a no, and Thomas Tuchel won’t go much higher for a 33-year-old. Monday’s approach was said to be their decisive move, suggesting Trippier will now stay.

“Almiron is wanted by Saudi sides Al-Shabab and Al-Ahli, but the Paraguay winger would like to stay on Tyneside until the summer at the very least.”

Greenwood to Barcelona?

Mason Greenwood could secure a “dream move” to Barcelona this summer and is edging closer to a deal, The Sun reports. Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe from Manchester United and is expected to leave permanently at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old also hopes to play for England again, the source told The Sun, but in the short-term a move to La Liga giants Barca could be in the pipeline.

A source told The Sun: “Barcelona want to sign Greenwood, and he wants to move there. The next step is for the clubs to come to an agreement.

“Manchester United want to sell the player and the manager has accepted Greenwood won’t be returning. The view is that it is best for all parties to have a clean break. As talented as Greenwood is, a return to the club when they are at the start of a new chapter, with new owners, is regarded as a backward step.

“A deal with Barcelona is likely to include a number of add-ons depending on games Mason goes on to play for them and possibly for England too. Mason is setting his sights on playing for his country again one day.”

Benzema: Raúl a tiro

Dani Alves tips Benzema to win Ballon d’Or, discusses his own future

Barcelona legend Davi Alves has had his say on the 2022 Ballon d’Or, tipping long-term rival Karim Benzema to swoop the prestigious award.

In an interview with Marca, Alves discussed a number of topics, from the demise of Barcelona in recent years, to his own future at the Catalan club, whilst also favouring the Real Madrid icon to snap up the France Football award after an electric season leading the line for Los Blancos.

Alves left Barcelona for Juventus in 2016, before returning to the club in January 2022 after spells in France with PSG, and Brazilian club Sao Paulo.

When asked to comment on the changes at the club during this time, he said he believed the club “got carried away by the tide”.

“For me what changed at Barca is that they got carried away by the tide,” Alves said.

“Football has been changing and the club mistakenly wanted to change and follow this tide. But if you have a solid base, you don’t have to adapt to what comes up or [what becomes] fashion because then you will be vulnerable.

“Football has been changing and started to buy and sell, and that is not Barca,” he said, hinting Barcelona should rely on the youth talent emerging at the Camp Nou, and compliment them with experienced players to make a “more solid” squad.

“That is the process of change that I have seen at Barca, and now we are trying to recover what was [there] before.”

Alves’ contract will run out in June, and potentially see the end of his second spell at the club.

The Brazilian defender, 39, insists he still tries to live “intensely” day to day without giving it much thought.

“What is certain is that I would like to continue because here I am at home, I am in the club, and in the team for which I have had to fight for five years to return to.

“And I think I can continue contributing things for them, but it doesn’t depend on me. And I’m not too worried either. My mission was to come here and show what I can contribute.

“I’m not one of those who think that for my whole career and for everything I’ve won I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, no. I always think I have to prove my worth. I can’t do anything else but give 200 percent to the club I love and love madly.”

Alves – who became the most decorated player in world football after winning gold with the Brazil team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – admitted it was up to the club to decide his future.

“I know where I am in my life and my career, but I also know what I have inside. And I think the one who doesn’t have me loses. I raised that level not of arrogance but of self-knowledge.

If Barca wants me to renew, I’m delighted. If they don’t want to, thank you very much, and I will continue to defend this club to the death wherever it is.”

Despite his recent comment about defending his club, Barcelona, to the death, Alves’ pick for Ballon d’Or will come as a surprise to some of the Blaugrana faithful.

He tipped Benzema to win the award, after the Frenchman contributed to Real Madrid’s La Liga title and route to the Champions League final with 43 goals in 43 games across all competitions, succeeding former teammate and close friend Lionel Messi as the current holder.

“He has everything to win for what he is doing,” said Alves.

“But the Champions League is going to have a lot of influence. If he wins it, he’s a serious candidate, though there are other names as well. At City, at Liverpool… there are players who can fight for it.

“He is earning it, because he has taken Real Madrid to places that it was not before in terms of play and other facets.”
