Eine Unterzahl ist nie hilfreich, gegen die Edmonton Oilers aber kann sie besonders schmerzhafte Folgen haben. Das zeigte sich am Samstagabend (MEZ) in der NHL einmal mehr.

Angeführt von Leon Draisaitl und Connor McDavid setzten sich die Oilers im kanadischen Duell gegen die Montreal Canadiens mit 5:3 durch. Entscheidend dabei: drei Powerplay-Tore im zweiten Drittel, mit denen die Oilers den 0:1-Rückstand (Nick Suzuki, 17.) in eine 3:1-Führung umbogen.

Draisaitl trat in dieser Phase ebenso als Torschütze und Assistgeber in Erscheinung wie McDavid. Kein NHL-Profi hat in dieser Saison mehr Powerplay-Tore erzielt als Draisaitl (10), sein kongenialer Partner ist in diesem Ranking mit neun Treffern Zweiter. Bei den Powerplay-Punkten hat McDavid (23) die Nase vorn, gefolgt von Draisaitl (19).

Insgesamt sammelte das Duo gegen die Canadiens zum neunten Mal in ihrer gemeinsamen Zeit jeweils vier Scorerpunkte – Draisaitl mit einem Tor und drei Assists, McDavid mit zwei Toren und zwei Assists – und baute damit auch in der NHL-Scorerliste ihre Führung aus: Nur McDavid (21 Tore, 26 Vorlagen) toppt dort Draisaitl (17 Tore, 25 Vorlagen).

Trotz der personellen Probleme haben die Oilers damit vier ihrer jüngsten fünf Partien gewonnen. In der Pacific Division sind sie mit 28 Punkten nach 25 Spielen knapp hinter den Play-off-Rängen und den Los Angeles Kings (30 nach 27 Partien) Vierter. Die Kings verloren gegen die Carolina Hurricanes mit 2:4.

Stützle punktet doppelt – Siegesserie von Grubauer & Co. gerissen

Einen erfolgreichen Abend erlebte auch Tim Stützle, der ein Tor und eine Vorlage zum 5:2-Sieg der Ottawa Senators über die San Jose Sharks beisteuerte. Der 20-Jährige markierte – ebenfalls im Powerplay – in der 37. Minute das zwischenzeitliche 3:2 und hat nun in 24 Einsätzen zehn Tore und 15 Vorlagen auf dem Konto. Bei den Sharks fehlte Nico Sturm abermals verletzungsbedingt.

Moritz Seider blieb beim 1:4 der Detroit Red Wings gegen die Vegas Golden Knights derweil ohne Scorerpunkt. Philipp Grubauer (23 Paraden) unterlag mit den Seattle Kraken den Florida Panthers mit 1:5 – die erste Niederlage nach zuvor sieben Siegen in Serie.

Mit dem 17. Tor der Partie haben die Seattle Kraken ihre Serie auf sechs NHL-Siege ausgebaut und durch das 9:8 nach Verlängerung bei den Los Angeles Kings einen Saisonbestwert aufgestellt. Weder gab es in dieser Spielzeit eine Partie mit mehr Toren, noch hatte ein Team zuvor häufiger als acht Mal in einem Spiel getroffen. Die sechs Ausgleichstore beider Teams zusammen haben den NHL-Rekord zudem eingestellt, teilte die Liga am Dienstagabend (Ortszeit) mit. Zwischenzeitlich stand es in Los Angeles 1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4, 5:5 und 8:8.

Den Siegtreffer erzielte André Burakovsky, der schon zum zwischenzeitlichen 8:6 getroffen hatte, in der dritten Minute der Overtime. Außerdem trafen Matthew Beniers und Jared McCann doppelt für die Gäste.

Grubauer: “Solche Spiele gibt’s, wo alles reinfällt”

Schon nach zwei Dritteln stand ein 8:6 für die Kraken auf der Anzeige, und der NHL-Rekord von 21 Toren in einer Partie schien in Reichweite. Eishockey-Nationaltorwart Philipp Grubauer musste sich dabei nicht über eine Flut an Gegentoren ärgern, der Rosenheimer kam nach überstandener Verletzung und seinem Comeback gegen die Vegas Golden Knights am 25. November wie schon beim Sieg gegen die Anaheim Ducks am Wochenende nicht zum Einsatz. “Ich weiß gar nicht, was ich sagen soll. So ein Spiel habe ich auch noch nie gesehen”, sagte Grubauer der Deutschen Presse-Agentur.

Die Kraken sind mit ihrer Serie das derzeit formstärkste Team der Liga, der Erfolg gegen den direkten Konkurrenten aus der Pacific Divison war im Kampf um die Play-offs besonders wertvoll. “Es ist natürlich wichtig, dass wir die Punkte mitgenommen haben. Solche Spiele gibt’s, wo alles reinfällt”, sagte Grubauer. Die Kraken spielen erst die zweite NHL-Saison ihrer Geschichte und standen noch nie in den Play-offs.

Erst 20-mal gab es im nordamerikanischen Profi-Eishockey eine Partie mit mehr Toren als am Dienstag, zuletzt beim 10:8 der San Jose Sharks gegen die Pittsburgh Penguins in der Saison 1995/96.

Bruins bauen Startrekord auf – Sturm verpasst 4:0-Sieg – Ovechkin trifft doppelt

Die Boston Bruins bauten unterdessen ihren Start-Rekord auf 13 Heimsiege aus – so lange war noch kein Team zu Beginn einer NHL-Saison zu Hause unbesiegt. Die Bruins gewannen 3:1 gegen die Tampa Bay Lightning, bei denen Steven Stamkos das einzige Tor erzielte und damit seinen 999. Scorerpunkt in der NHL verbuchte. Die San Jose Sharks holten ohne den weiter verletzten Nico Sturm ein 4:0 bei den Montreal Canadiens.

Alex Ovechkin führte derweil die Washington Capitals zu einem 5:1-Erfolg bei den Vancouver Canucks. Der Stürmer stellte per Doppelpack früh auf 2:0 (6./12.).

Mit einem langen Pass vom eigenen Tor hat Tim Stützle den Siegtreffer der Ottawa Senators vorbereitet. Im Duell mit den Los Angeles Kings waren 20 Sekunden in der Verlängerung gespielt, als der frühere Mannheimer Senators-Neuzugang Claude Giroux vor dem Treffer zum 3:2 mit einem sehenswerten Zuspiel bediente.

Stützle gelangen in Kalifornien die Assists Nummer 13 und 14 der Saison. Der Kanadier Giroux erzielte das drittschnellste Overtime-Tor der Klubgeschichte. Ottawa ist trotz des Sieges weiter Letzter der Atlantic Division. Die Kings stehen bereits bei zwölf Siegen und kassierten nun ihre zehnte Niederlage.

Die Seattle Kraken sind unterdessen so erfolgreich wie noch nie in ihrer Geschichte und holten den fünften Sieg in Serie. Beim 5:4 gegen die Anaheim Ducks kam Nationaltorwart Philip Grubauer zwei Tage nach seinem Comeback gegen die Vegas Golden Knights allerdings nicht zum Einsatz. Der Niederländer Daniel Sprong erzielte in der vierten Minute im Schlussdrittel das Siegtor für die Kraken.
