Road to Rio 2016 Olympic Game Jahmal Germain

My name is Jahmal Germain and I am 22 years of age. I have a dream and in that dream I am standing on the podium as a representative for the Great Britain Athletics team at the Olympic Games. Everything I do, is aimed at turning that dream into a reality.

I compete in the Track and Field Decathlon combined event consisting of 10 individual track and field events over 2 consecutive days. Points are awarded for performances in each of the 10 events and the winner is the athlete with the most points overall. To do all of this I realise I will face challenges and that it will be a difficult journey, but in the words of the famous Tommy Hilfiger “The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it is possible to achieve…”. Some of these challenges I know are deeply personal to me and I will have to overcome them myself. In some I will be helped by those who know me best – my family and friends, my coaches, my physiotherapists, masseurs and my nutritionist. But there is one huge challenge that only you people reading this profile can help and suppot me with is Funding !

I will be using the funds for:
To perform well across 10 events is very demanding on time. Not all the event coaches I work with are based in the same locations, so I need to travel. I need gymnastics training. I need different sets of spikes for different events. I need to attend training camps. I need to enter and travel to competitions because of the nature of the decathlon I would need to stay over for at least one night, I also have know option but to eat healthily. I need equipment for my different events.Training for the decathlon requires full time commitment to achieve an elite level of competition. The training is year round and the chances of maintaining meaningful full time employment and training, to be honest, is extremely difficult. Please don’t get the impression that I am work shy.
There were immense challenges just to stay alive. Now I want to take all that experience and energy and throw it into my athletics.

Getting started in athletes, I was supported financially by Tessa Sanderson and her Foundation and Academy (TSFA). TSFA helped meet some travel expenses and funded the purchase of equipment and clothing I needed at the time for training. I am most grateful and appreciative of this help and I will never forget it.I have also taken some part time acting and modelling roles to help raise some funds to finance my activities to date. Early in 2014 I had the pleasure of being able to spend a few weeks in the film studios working alongside the great Samuel L Jackson as his picture , standing and stunt double no less!!Achievements to date include:England Athletics 2012 U/23 men Decathlon Silver medallistEngland Athletics 2014 indoor U/23 men Heptathlon bronze medallistBut now I need to make the big push. Rio 2016 may seem a long time away but team selections will be made within the next 12 months. During this time I will need to raise my game. When I first started I went from a sprinter ranked 878 to 3rd in the UK for Decathlon.
To achieve my goals, I must do more, I must possess the stamina and the ability to run faster, jumping higher, throw further and jumping beyond my current performances

Now my programme demands me to train 6 to 8 hours every day, 6 days a week.So in summary the funds raised via MakeAChamp will be used as follows:Track fees, accommodation, travelling to and from competitions (including warm weather training) £6,760Physiotherapy and massage £2,160 (£45 per session once a week)Nutrition, supplements and some training gear £4,500Coaching from six of the UK’s best elite coaches, £4,500TOTAL £17,920
Your contribution means:
I am with some of the best combined events coaches in the UK. I am mixing with world class decathletes and heptathletes. I have the momentum to achieve great things. With your help and support, I will be grateful for any financial support received and I would like to be in a position to thank you personally With the opportunity to share some of the highlights along the way.

In due course I will endeavour to put something back into the Sport and hope to be a role model and inspiration to young men and women.
Daley Thompson, was the last British athlete to win a Olympic Gold medal in 1984 los angels games which was 31year ago. I truly believe with your help and support, I will be the next Great Britain athlete to make the podium at the olympic games for Decathlon
